I seriously can’t take the track, Dope Peddler, off repeat. Produced by Bangladesh, the production value is mentally deranged; the instrumental with the Tom Lehrer sample alone is a hit. I still can’t explain the cosmic phenomenon that is the success of the track, No Lie, produced by Mike Will and featuring Drake; even I find myself singing the hook out of nowhere. Say what you will, but numbers prove that anything Drake is on is a hit; I think that may be it. The-Dream produced and featured track, Extremely Blessed, is an amazing bass ridden ballad that adds a refreshing dose of depth to the album; you kind of forget it's a 2 Chainz song until he utters the first few words of the first verse. Because of their production values, other notable tracks include Birthday Song, I Luve Dem Strippers, and I Feel Good, which the latter is on the deluxe version of the album.
Based on a T.R.U. Story distinctively comprises three tracks with a bit of conscientiousness. Stop Me Now ft. Dolla Boi, In Town ft. Mike Poser, and Ghetto Dreams ft. John Legend and Scarface respectively slows down the pace of the album as if something serious is about to transcend and they carefully hold your attention from start to finish. However, it's a shame that these tracks will most likely be overshadowed by the club bangers and radio hits. But, I think it would greatly benefit 2 Chainz if he manifested a bit more in tracks of this caliber. For a more detailed breakdown of the tracks featured on the standard edition, feel free to check out the Amazon review by Michael Brent Faulkner, Jr.
One other thing I would like to add is the track that’s on the deluxe version, Like Me, which features a sample from The Weeknd’s, The Birds Part 1. Being a huge fan of The Weeknd, the sample is enough to keep the track in my personal playlist. The content is, well, 2 Chainz, but the production value is glorious. | |
According to the Twittersphere, 2 Chainz best work is in his mixtapes. I haven’t heard much of his mixtapes, but if Based on a T.R.U. Story is the type of quality that is expected, especially after 2 Chainz' career was considered done back in 2010, then the loyal fan base will remain no matter if they come from the mixtapes or studio albums of “Tity 2Necklace.” Truuuuuu!
